General Description

For the quality control of Söderberg paste used in the aluminium or arc furnaces industries, some properties can be measured on the green paste itself, while others require the production of baked pilot electrodes.

These Söderberg pilot electrodes can be baked with the RDC-165 apparatus, in which a metallic bucket is placed that contains the green Söderberg paste. The temperature is increased according to a specific heat-up schedule. A given pressure is applied to the paste to ensure a density
level like the real production conditions, the sample is protected with packing material to avoid any air oxidation during the heat treatment. The equipment is supplied with a tar incinerator unit for fume treatment purposes.

After baking, the metallic bucket that holds the baked pilot electrode can be removed and up to five core samples with 50 mm diameter can be drilled for analysis purposes by using the RDC-179 Pilot Core Drilling Machine.
